DECEMBER KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for December 2018:
  • Cattle slaughter decreased by 2,800 head (or 0.4%) in the month ending December 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 56,100 head (or 9.2%) year-on-year.
  • Calf slaughter decreased by 300 head (or 0.7%) in the month ending December 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 9,000 head (or 27.3%) year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter decreased by 21,000 head (or 2.6%) for the month ending December 2018 compared with the previous month but increased by 135,400 head (or 20.6%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter increased by 12,700 head (or 0.7%) for the month ending December 2018 compared with the previous month but decreased by 125,200 head (or 6.6%) year-on-year.
  • Pig slaughter decreased by 1,100 head (or 0.2%) for the month ending December 2018 compared to the previous month but increased by 200 head year-on-year.
